‘Hey, Moma!’ wins Howl, 59 tarpon released

The Pass was rocking on Sunday night, May 28 as the boats that fished the Howl at the Moon Tarpon Tournament had hook-up after hook-up after hook-up. In all, 59 tarpon were released.
Capt. Wayne Joiner on “Hey, Moma!” and his team – including anglers Dixie Hollins, Alex Shouppe, Mike Moorefield and Trey Starling –caught seven of those 59. Capt. Charlie Coleman’s team on “Had ‘em” took second place with six tarpon released.

Dog Park to close while more work is being done

The Dog Park at Wheeler Road Community Park, 305 Wheeler Road, Boca Grande, will close Monday, June 5 for renovations and project completion. Ladies to ‘Howl’ June 9

The Gasparilla Island Maritime Museum will host the Howl at the Moon “Ladies Night Out” on Saturday, June 10, and it isn’t too late to register.
The opening cocktail party will be held on Friday, June 9 upstairs at Scarpa’s Coastal from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
There will be hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar, a raffle and a silent auction featuring numerous gifts donated from the community.

Cell tower update: Steel on track for July delivery

All is going as planned with the progression on the island’s new permanent cellphone tower. According to Vertical Bridge’s Vice President of Site Development Steve Gosnell, they are scheduled to stack steel for the tower starting in July. T The construction company says that all is proceeding as planned. 

Dana Carr, past president & past chairman of Florida International Air Show, inducted into the Tourism Hall of Fame

This year marks the 8th year that the Punta Gorda/Englewood Beach Visitor and Convention Bureau would induct a member of the community’s hospitality industry into the Hall of Fame. 

Charlotte County Commissioner Chris Constance presented the award, stating that “the honor is a special one, given only to those with an extensive body of work that has had a positive and lasting impact on Charlotte County’s tourism Industry. Dana has not only created that impact, he has made it “soar.”
