OBITUARY: Jacqueline Towell

Jacqueline Lesley Towell passed away on May 13, 2017 in St. Petersburg, Florida.
A British citizen, Jackie was born in Wuhu, China on June 12, 1933 to Lesley and Olive Honnor. In early 1941 the family fled to Australia from China during the Sino-Japanese war. In November 1941 her father was posted to Manila in the Philippines.
Following the bombing of Pearl Harbor and the subsequent declaration of war by the Allies, Jackie and her family were rounded up by the Japanese and interned at Santo Tomas University in Manila for three years. In 1945 the camp was liberated by American forces, and the entire family was repatriated to Great Britain. In 1949 the family was once again posted abroad, this time to Hong Kong, where Jackie met Anthony Towell, a captain in the Royal Norfolk Regiment of the British Army. The two were wed in England in 1955.
During their 62-year marriage, Jackie and Tony lived in England, Thailand, Uruguay, Argentina, Colombia and the United States.
An avid rug maker, Jackie designed and hooked countless works of art over the years, many of which were displayed in local art shows in New York, Maine, Florida and the United Kingdom.
She was adored by her family and many friends for her kind and compassionate nature.
She is survived by her husband, Anthony Towell, daughter Melinda (John) Tyrwhitt of London, England and son Paul (Alexandra) Towell of Tampa, Florida; grandchildren St John Tyrwhitt (Nina), Oliver Tyrwhitt (Wai Tze), Alexander Tyrwhitt (Catriona), Cameron Towell and Laura Towell; and great-grandchildren Annabelle, Jack, Isla and Lydia Tyrwhitt.
A private memorial service will be held on Friday, May 19 in St. Petersburg, Florida and later in London, England.
