We’re a pretty preppy place, I guess … does that mean we have to wear shoes?

BY MARCY SHORTUSE – According to Town&Country Magazine, Boca Grande is quite the “tony” location for getting hitched nowadays. In a May article, the periodical gives the top 12 preppiest wedding locations around the world, and we are listed as number six.
“Why?” the magazine asks. “Because your grandmothers both have beach cottages on Gasparilla Island, and your wedding cake of choice is a key lime pie from Newlin’s.”
It continues and explains the tradition.
“Many couples who marry at The Gasparilla Inn & Club have been spring-breaking under the yellow-and-white-striped beach umbrellas since they were babes. They therefore like to incorporate club rituals into their wedding weekend,” reported Corey Anglin, special events manager for The Inn, “notably our Bingo Night in The Inn’s Living Room, which is a riot!”
The magazine lists what they call “Guests of Honor (in spirit) at each location.” Who were ours? President G.W. Bush and Barbara Bush, of course.
Other preppy wedding locations included:
1) Aspen Colorado
2) Charleston, S.C.
3) Montego Bay, Jamaica
4) Coastal Maine
5) Bermuda
7) Litchfield County, Connecticut
8) Jekyll Island, Georgia
9) Rural Vermont
10) Telluride, Colorado
11) Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts
12) Newport, Rhode Island.
