BY MARCY SHORTUSE – Capt. Jackie Bylaska, a Boca Grande boy from way back, needs a little help from our close-knit island family. He suffered a stroke on Easter evening and just got out of a rehabilitation facility. He and his wife, Sandy, are looking at some serious financial issues as they face a long road to recovery … and Jackie out of the guiding game during tarpon season.
The Bylaska family has been guiding on the island for three generations, Jackie for more than 50 years of that time. The community’s love for him is apparent in the fact a gofundme page, “BocaGrande Friends of Jackie,” has received almost $8,000 so far. We all know how far that goes when it comes to medical bills, though, and any amount you could donate would be very much appreciated by the Bylaska family and by Jackie’s island family. We all want to see him get well and get back out there fishing with Sandy at his side.
