An island 5K race which has not been held since before COVID-19 has been revived by the Boca Grande Chamber of Commerce. The St. Patrick’s Day Lucky Run 5K begins at 7:30 a.m. on St. Patrick’s Day, Sunday, March 17.
“They were willing to let us take it over, and now we will probably do it annually because it has been pretty popular so far,” said Gary Cross, executive director of the Chamber.
The run was not previously set on a given holiday, but they decided St. Patrick’s Day was a good way to get people excited for the first annual Chamber 5K, Cross said.
The run is timed and will include awards for male and female overall and top three male and female in all age groups from under 12 to 80. Check-in will start at 6:15 a.m., and awards will be held at 9:30 a.m.
Suncoast Beverage Sales is providing post-run beer, Cross said, and confirmed sponsors include Banyan Tree Pilates & Yoga, Grande Aire Services and Island Lightscapes.
