This month’s “Cars and Coffee” is an extra special one, because John Zahner and Liz Leeds of Michael Saunders and Company are teaming up with WINK news to raise money to feed Southwest Florida families.

“We are doing [Cars and Coffee] every month just to meet new people and get them together, but we think this is a really great cause,” Zahner said.

Cars and Coffee brings people from all over – some from as far as Fort Lauderdale – to get together, see some cars and enjoy free donuts and coffee. February’s car show will raise money for “March to a Million Meals,” a WINK initiative that aims to provide one million meals to the Harry Chapin Food Bank of Southwest Florida, which feeds children, seniors and working families in the area.

Just $6 can feed a family of four for a whole day, according to the food bank website. Harry Chapin is the largest hunger-relief nonprofit in Southwest Florida and serves Charlotte, Collier, Glades, Hendry and Lee counties.

The event, which will be held from 9 a.m. to noon. on Saturday, Feb. 24 at Wheeler Road Community Park, is free as always, but this month they are encouraging anyone who brings a car down or comes to spectate to donate to the cause.

This program began in November 2023 and will run through April of this year. The last two Cars and Coffee events have brought in around 60 cars, but this weekend they are hoping to have closer to 100, Zahner said.

New visitors of the event can expect to see Jaguars, Ferraris, Bentleys and maybe even a Volkswagen brigade.

The goal is to get Boca Grande residents to bring their old cars down from their garages to build community spirit, and this week to raise money for a good cause, Zahner said.
