The 2024 World’s Richest Tarpon Tournament is set for Wednesday, May 22 and Thursday, May 23.
This year, the Grande Tradition honorees at the Captain’s Party are Merritt ‘Babe’ Darna and the late Isabelle Joiner.
Each day, the tournament runs from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. The awards are on Thursday, May 23 beginning with a street party at 8 p.m. downtown in front of Crews Bank.
The tournament dates from the early 1980s, when the Boca Grande Club started the Boca Grande Club Invitational Tarpon Tournament. The idea was to bring world class anglers to Boca Grande. In the early 1990s, the Boca Grande Chamber took over the tournament rebranding it as the “World’s Richest Tarpon Tournament.” The tournament is a traditional live-bait-only tournament.
For 2024, Kacy Joiner Cheske is tournament director. The head judge is Dixie Hollins.
The registration fee is $7,500. Registration is open until Monday, May 20, at the Boca Grande Chamber of Commerce.
For more information, contact the Boca Grande Area Chamber of Commerce at (941) 964-0568, email them at info@bocagrandechamber.com.
