Fundraising efforts to procure the Gasparilla Island Light are now halfway there, according to Barrier Island Parks Society representatives.
Excitement is growing in the BIPS organization as donations come in to support the Gasparilla Island Lighthouse restoration campaign.
According to Larry Hannah, chair of the Gasparilla Island Light Development committee, “We are halfway there! We are hoping to acquire enough additional funds in the next few weeks to begin restoration on June 1.”
Sharon McKenzie, executive director for BIPS, said, “I have always known the community on Boca Grande to be very generous, but it really touches your heart when you see it in action. Thank you to everyone who has given so far. Please continue to support, if you have not already.  We need another $400,000 to begin work in June.”
For more information on the project, please visit BIPS website at www.barrierislandparkssociety.org and review the brochure, “Help Keep The Light Shining on Boca Grande.”
Tax-deductible contributions should be made to “Light Keeper’s Fund” and sent directly to BIPS at P.O. Box 654, Boca Grande, FL, 33921.  Multi-year pledges and gifts of stock are also welcome.
