The Island School announces appointment of new head-of-school

SUBMITTED BY THE ISLAND SCHOOL – The Island School Board of Trustees is pleased to announce the appointment of Christine Oliver as Head of School, effective August 1, 2021. She will succeed Jean M. Thompson who has led the School for nine years. During this transition to Mrs. Oliver’s leadership, she and Mrs. Thompson will continue to advance a respectful and supportive educational environment at TIS where learners can thrive.

Mrs. Oliver began her teaching career with Sarasota County Schools in 1998. Over the past 23 years, she has taught in both elementary and middle school. She has also been a data coach and behavior intervention teacher. For the past six years, Mrs. Oliver has been an assistant principal at the elementary and middle school levels. Most recently, she has served as assistant principal at Laurel Nokomis School, a K-8 school.

Oliver is married to Ryan Oliver, and they have two sons, Joseph and Jack. Joseph is a rising senior at Pine View School, and Jack is a rising freshman at Lemon Bay High School. They are both avid wrestlers, and Mom’s heart is always on the mat. Mrs. Oliver loves tarpon fishing and spending quality time with her family.
