To the Editor:
The 2018 Hurricane season is almost upon us. Although we sincerely hope this is a quiet season and the GICIA Alert List will not be needed, we want to be sure that everyone has the chance to subscribe.
As many of you know, the GICIA Alert List originated during Hurricane Charley and was reinstated during Hurricane Irma.
Before, during and after Hurricane Irma passed, the GICIA sent out a total of about 20 alerts with pertinent  information regarding the storm’s path, preparation and follow-up when the storm had passed.
During Irma we were inundated with over 300 requests to be added, making it very difficult to keep up with the demand.
Please know that in the event of an island emergency, GICIA will use this Alert List to get important and time-sensitive information to those of you who are interested.
In the event of a storm, we will continue to relay important information to our list as long as we have the connection available to send emails.
Amazingly, during Irma we were in touch throughout the entire storm.
As always, you are welcome to share these alerts with your interested friends or family. To subscribe, email me at
