Day One of World’s Richest yields 24 releases

BY MARCY SHORTUSE – Day One of the 2016 World’s Richest Tarpon Tournament is complete, and in just a few short hours Day Two will begin.
Day One, on Thursday, May 19, yielded 24 releases for 26 boats in the competition. The First Fish Award, with a release at 2:51 p.m. , went to Capt. Blake Cheske and his anglers Lewis Fernandez, Don Simon and Kacy Cheske on Outta Line. They will be receiving a check for $9,800 on Friday evening, May 20, at the awards ceremony downtown at 8 p.m.
The Last Fish Award, for a tarpon released at 6:37 p.m., went to Capt. Charlie Coleman’s anglers on Casuarina, Howard Wise, Emily Wise, Daniel Hildreth and Nicole Coleman. They also received a $9,800 check.
So far the Sundown team with Capt. Timmy Smith is in the lead with four releases, and Team Native with Capt. Frank Davis is in second with three releases.
Fishing starts today, May 20, at 2:30 p.m. in Boca Grande Pass, and regulation time ends at 6:30 p.m.
The World’s Richest Tarpon Tournament is coordinated by the Boca Grande Chamber of Commerce.
