Anglers, observers needed for Ladies Day Tarpon Tournament

Calling all lovers of the tarpon season. The 2016 Ladies Day Tarpon Tournament will be held, as is traditional, on Mother’s Day weekend, Saturday, May 7. Can’t fish it this year? Sign up to be an observer. Contact Melissa at (941) 473-4506.
Fishing will be held in the Boca Grande Pass from 5 to 8 p.m., with the awards ceremony to follow immediately afterward  at the Boca Grande Area Chamber of Commerce, 471 Park Ave., Ste. 3, Boca Grande (Pink Pony Court Yard).
Registration is $550. The Chamber is currently taking registrations until they reach the full capacity of 50 boats. Full payment is due on the date of registration.
Tournament bags can be picked up at the Captains Party on Friday, May 6 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Crowninshield House. Registration starts at 5 p.m., and the official party starts at 6 p.m. with music by Miles Bosworth and refreshments. Rules will be announced at 6:30 p.m.
First place anglers win $1,000. First place captain wins $500. Prizes will be awarded to second and third place winners to be announced.
Copies of this year’s limited edition of signed posters are available for sale at the Boca Grande Area Chamber office and online. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Family Promise of South Sarasota County, a 501(c)3 non-profit, that seeks to help families with minor children who are in temporary need of housing in Venice, North Port and Englewood. It’s not too late to become a sponsor.
