On Saturday, Nov. 20 you can show off your hoop-shooting prowess at the annual Turkey Hoop Shoot, sponsored by Lee County Parks and Recreation and the Boca Beacon.

The action begins at 10 a.m. and the event is held on the basketball court at the Boca Grande Community Center.

The Turkey Hoop Shoot contest is free to children and adults. The age divisions are: Co-Ed 4 & under, Co-Ed 5-6, separate Male and Female age divisions for 7-8, 9-10, 11-14 and 15 & up. Prizes will be awarded to the first place winner of each division. All children must be supervised for this event.

The contest consists of 15 shots from several locations on the basketball court. The three top competitors in each age division will advance to the final round. Register the day of the event between 9:15 and 9:45 a.m. For more information call 964-2564 and press “2” for Khoreen.

On Tuesday, Nov. 23, the 26th annual Gasparilla Island Flyfishing Tournament will be held in local waters. Fishing begins at 9 a.m. and ends at 1 p.m., so make sure you’re at the Pink Elephant (5th Street) boat docks and ready to fish at 9 a.m. sharp.

There are two anglers allowed per team. A captain can be present on the boat as a third occupant as long as he or she isn’t fishing, and in that case, they will not have to pay an entry fee. For more information or for questions about the rules call Capt. Sandy at Gasparilla Outfitters, 964-0907.
