Larry McNiff of The Boca Grande Camera Club taught a Basics of Photography class to kids ages 6 to 12 at the Boca Grande Community Center.

TEN YEARS AGO

An exotic plant removal project was moving forward for the 85 acres of Gasparilla Island State Park. A grant was rewarded, and a pre-bid meeting was held.

FIFTEEN YEARS AGO

The Gasparilla Island Bridge Authority board was scheduled to meet with 12 “short-listed” firms that were interested in building the two fixed bridges connecting the island to the mainland.

TWENTY YEARS AGO

Hudson’s received a major remodeling job with new stucco, new deli cases and a new generator, among other items.

TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO 

Sweeping management restructuring had come to the Boca Grande Post Office with the office being closed from 12:30 to 1 p.m. every day. 

THIRTY YEARS AGO

The Gasparilla Conservation and Improvement Association held an informal fundraiser for land conservation which brought in $650,000.

THIRTY-FIVE YEARS AGO

Laff-A-Lott Bar and Restaurant was scheduled to go to the auction block. Gasparilla Marine Sales, Inc. was told to vacate their site in Placida after the property was foreclosed on and sold at auction.

FORTY YEARS AGO

The state was still seeking a suitable land base for parking and a ferry landing to provide public access to the new Don Pedro Park.

FORTY-FIVE YEARS AGO

County employees set the new bleachers in place at the Boca Grande ballfield. Women’s softball had been postponed due to the rain but was set to begin again after the coach returned from vacation.
