It all started on Monday, Feb. 28 when we glanced out to the beach and saw that ALL of the beach umbrellas from Seagrape to the first section of Sundown had been removed and were laying on the ground. We were perplexed about this and notified the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. They responded quickly and checked out the beach.

The Literature Forum’s February session featured an animated discussion of Isabel Allende’s “A Long Petal of the Sea,” with presenter Simonetta Balzer providing an excellent analysis of both the book and the author.
The Forum’s upcoming meeting is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 3 in the Houghton Room of the Community Center.

Janet Gillespie who lived in Boca Grande between 1978 and 2004 told stories of the jobs she held, the friends she made, the programs she helped start and the pranks she pulled to the interest and delight of the audience at the Historical Society’s first History Byte since 2020. A number of themes ran through Janet’s presentation, her love of horses and of the water and fishing, her creative friends with whom she started several Island organizations and events and her history of pulling pranks.
