Get ready to groove at the Green Gala

Get out your bell-bottoms, start practicing your peace signs, and get your groove on. Woodstock is coming to Boca Grande. The iconic rock festival provides the theme for the 24th annual Green Gala, hosted by the Barrier Island Parks Society (BIPS). It will be Monday, March 28, at the Boca Bay Pass Club, 898 Gulf Blvd. The party starts at 5:30 p.m. and runs until 10 p.m.

Lance and Susan Brind Morrow to speak at Fust Library

Dare we call them learned? Why not? They are wordsmiths, absorbed with history, literature and languages. They have traveled far and written eloquently of what they saw. Now Lance and wife Susan Brind Morrow are settled on a farm with a dog they love and field mice of which they feel less kindly, as the mice also enjoy the warmth of their 18th century farmhouse in the midst of fields in the Finger Lakes District of northern New York that long ago were orchards planted by Johnny Appleseed. The Iroquois once lived here too, at least until George Washington sent his general to destroy the trees and banish the resident Indians to make room for white settlers in a brutally acquired new land.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Apology given for miscommunication over Bike Path signs

Every morning I pick up trash….even things as small as cigarette butts….along the bike trail when I’m walking home. One morning this week, there were quite a few signs that had been put up along the path urging us all to be polite and careful. They did not appear to be official, so, mistaking them for an individual making a personal statement on a right of way used by just about everyone, I removed them.
