It is a new year, the weather is cooler, island activities are picking up and there is a steady stream of users on the GICIA Bike Path. The GICIA’s Bike Path property includes approximately three miles of a pedestrian-friendly walking path and five miles of a 10-foot-wide paved path. This linear park is shared by many different users including walkers, runners, skaters, as well as people on golf carts, bikes, and wheelchairs. With activity on the Bike Path increasing, the GICIA encourages all users to adopt a “Share the Path” mindset.

To honor and preserve the rich history of the island, Rick Montgomery of Island TV for Boca Grande has produced a series called “Island Icons.” Thanks to the efforts of Jim Blaha, the Boca Grande Historical Society, Jim and Karen Grace, future generations will be able to have access to the important history of the island.
“The History of the Temptation,” which is currently available on Island TV is a captivating episode of the series. Beautifully narrated by Jim Grace, the show walks the audience through the restaurant, pointing out the rich history contained within the walls of the iconic restaurant.

Original folk music with sweet harmonies will fill the sanctuary of the Boca Grande Lighthouse Methodist Church at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 15 with the musical duo, the Chatham Rabbits. Tickets are $25 and are available at the church office on 3rd Street, Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Doug Tallamy must have teenage fans galore. Any kid tasked with mowing the front lawn on a hot, sticky summer day would agree with his proposal, “ . . regenerate biodiversity and ecosystem function by planting native plants and creating new ecological networks.” In other words, ditch the lawn. And while you’re at it, let leaves lay where they may. The retired leaf blower can pal around with the weary lawn mower and the world will become a better place.
