A 49-year-old Port Charlotte man was charged with battery after Lee County Sheriff’s deputies arrested him in the parking lot of South Beach Bar & Grille. At approximately 8:45 p.m. on Sunday, July 3 deputies were called to the restaurant on Gulf Boulevard after patrons complained of a couple fighting in the parking lot.
When deputies arrived, they found Carlos Juan Ferrer standing at the rear of a pickup truck holding a can of beer. A female, later identified as the victim, was sitting in the front passenger seat of the truck. According to the report, deputies on the scene recognized Ferrer from a contact made earlier in the day, when he was improperly parked on Belcher Road.
The report states that the deputy noticed the victim was crying, and that she had fresh scratches on both of her wrists, scratches across her upper right arm and a golfball-sized bruise above her left elbow near the back of her arm.
When the deputy asked how the victim sustained those injuries, she told the deputy that Ferrer had done it while they were fighting over the keys to the truck.
The report indicates that Ferrer said he did not know how the victim sustained those injuries, and that it was not him who caused them.
A third party who was with Ferrer and the victim told deputies the two had been arguing over keys, but that he had not witnessed any physical violence. According to the report, Ferrer was arrested for misdemeanor battery/touch or strike under domestic violence guidelines, then transported to the Lee County Jail.
Ferrer was released from jail on July 4 under $10,000 bond.
