To the Editor:

Lemon Bay Conservancy is pleased to announce it has received a $6,800 grant from the Charlotte Community Foundation. These funds will support replacement of the maintenance shed at Lemon Creek Wildflower Preserve that was destroyed by Hurricane Ian.

As the center for philanthropy in Charlotte County, the Charlotte Community Foundation (CCF) envisions a community that is philanthropically inspired to ensure all members are afforded an equal opportunity to thrive. Through deliberate grant-making, a forging of community partnerships and an emphasis on higher education, the Foundation is able to focus exclusively on the needs of Charlotte County while enhancing the quality of its residents now and in the future.

Lemon Bay Conservancy is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization working to protect our beautiful local environment by saving land, promoting water quality initiatives, providing environmental education and advocating for sustainable environmental policies. At our 80-acre Lemon Creek Wildflower Preserve in Englewood, we have restored native habitats at a defunct golf course. Our maintenance shed houses equipment used by Conservancy volunteers for upkeep and improvement projects at the Preserve.  Eva Furner, chair of the Conservancy’s Preserve management committee, noted that “the shed is a very important asset for ongoing Preserve management efforts. CCF’s funding for this replacement shed is greatly appreciated.”

The Charlotte Community Foundation was established in 1995, to serve the community as a 501(c)3, tax-exempt, public charitable organization.  The Foundation’s mission is “Connecting People Who Care with Causes That Matter.” The Charlotte Community Foundation awards grants through a competitive application and review process. This particular grant is part of a special grant program providing Hurricane Ian relief funds for Charlotte County nonprofits. CCF is committed to providing personalized donor services to assist individuals when they need it most while establishing tax-advantageous charitable funds to provide distributions, grants, and other resources that support nonprofits in Charlotte County.
