Touring pro Schmidt and fave Harrington to play tennis series
The 2016 Pro Tennis Exhibition Series will be held this spring each Wednesday at 4 p.m. at the Boca Grande Club from February 3 to March 16. The Series, with proceeds benefitting the Suncoast Humane Society, will include eight men and eight women competing for over $5,000 in prize money. This is the fifth week of an eight-week article series profiling all 16 players.
Currently ranked on the professional world tour at #927 in singles and #1186 in doubles, Mara Schmidt will be taking time out of her professional tournament-playing schedule to come back for her second Series this spring. The former #1 player and graduate of Purdue University placed second in the Series last year and is looking to take the title this season.
Scott Harrington, a fan favorite of the Series and currently the Head Tennis Pro at Shadow Wood Country Club in Bonita Springs, will be seeking his seventh Series title this season. Harrington was #1 in the U.S. in Men’s Open Doubles among all USPTA pros and was All-American at Palm Beach College.
A live auction has been added to this year’s Tennis Ball, Fete for Pets, to benefit the Suncoast Humane Society. One very exciting live auction item is a Napa Valley wine tour for four that includes wine-tasting at four wineries, with accommodations including two nights at the Victorian House. Travel includes a $1,000 cash travel allowance.
Tickets can be purchased at the Boca Grande Club, contact Stephanie at 964-2211 or Jackie at (941) 474-7884.
