Florida Power & Light Company surprised the Boca Grande Fire Department by putting up lights and decorations on the building on Monday, Dec. 2.

“We’re thrilled to be in Boca Grande this holiday season to give back to the community,” said Hannah Aldridge, who handles public relation for FPL. “This effort is FPL’s way of honoring the dedication and bravery of our heroes in their service to the community.”

This is the 17th consecutive year of FPL’s holiday program, which gives back to local heroes such as U.S. Veterans and first responders for their service to the community.

A group of volunteers arrived at the fire station on Monday afternoon along with a bucket truck to put thousands of LED lights along the roof of the building. An inflatable firefighting Santa now greets visitors to the station, along with other solar-powered decor.

As the sun set, FPL volunteers gifted several firefighters with wreaths out front of the building.

FPL is decorating fire and police stations around Florida as part of their Holiday Hero Lighting program. So far, volunteers have decorated several veterans’ homes and four fire and police stations in Sarasota. This week, they will also be decorating the Fort Myers Beach Fire Station.
