BY CEO MARK DRISCOLL, BOCA GRANDE HEALTH CLINIC – You may have noticed that healthcare is full of recognition days and events both big and small – from heart month, to women’s health week, to national hand washing day, to patient experience week (which we talked about just last week). It’s our way of keeping your health top of mind. But there’s none as special to me as National Nurses Week (May 6-12).

This week provides a special opportunity to celebrate and recognize the incredible people who dedicate their life’s work to caring for others. If you’ve spent any time at the Boca Grande Health Clinic, I’m sure you will agree that our nursing team is outstanding.

This past year has been especially challenging for our nursing team, who have carried the day throughout the long battle against COVID-19 and through the vaccination process. They work tirelessly, keep everyone’s spirits lifted and truly embody our mission of quality, personalized care.

I hope you will join me in thanking our Clinic nurses – Deb, Laquanda, Natalie, Karen, Silvia and Dana – for their dedication to keeping our patients and our Island home safe and healthy.

Get to know a little more about our nurses …

“My favorite pastime outside of work is to spend time with my family. If I could choose to do anything for a day, I would go fishing.”

– Deb Hahn, Nurse Coordinator

“My favorite pastime outside of work is K9 training / decoy bite work. One thing my colleagues don’t know about me (until now!) is that I have synesthesia, a blending of my vision and hearing.”

– Silvia McCoy, Staff Nurse

“My family’s motto is ‘Remember who you are.’ My favorite vacation was sailing a catamaran through the Caribbean islands.”

– Dana Pellant, Staff Nurse

“When I was a child, I always wanted to be a registered nurse, but things did not work out that way. If I chose to do one thing for a day, it would be to spend a day at the beach house enjoying the day.”

– Laquanda Dixon, Medical Assistant

“My favorite vacation is Jamaica. My favorite pastime outside of work is being a nurse!”

– Karen Trent, Medical Assistant
