STAFF REPORT – Local first responders received several calls this weekend, including several boat and golf cart calls.

On Saturday, April 24 at approximately 8:50 p.m. Boca Grande firefighters responded to a call for mutual aid from Charlotte County for a small, dark-colored boat that was possibly in distress with no running lights on, possibly unoccupied.

The call was eventually handled by Charlotte County.

On Friday, April 30 fire and EMS responded to 5th Street and Tarpon Avenue for an ambulance call involving a man who fell off the back of a golf cart. He was conscious and alert but did have a head injury.

He was transported to Englewood Community Hospital for evaluation.

On Saturday, May 1 Lee County Sheriff’s Deputies and Boca Grande Fire and EMS responded to a call of two golf carts involved in a head-on collision. The call came in at approximately 4:04 p.m. and listed the location at 13th Street.

According to sheriff’s reports, the deputy responded and made contact with one of the parties involved, who said she was driving southbound on the bike path and observed a golf cart coming toward her, swerving on the path. The driver stated the girl driving the other cart was on her phone when she crossed over 13th Street and hit her head on, disabling her golf cart.

The woman told deputies she had a small cut to her right hand and stated she was going to go get checked out at the health clinic.

The deputy then made contact with the young girl who had been driving the other golf cart. She stated she was driving her friend’s golf cart north on the path and that the steering wheel is very sensitive. She admitted that she did swerve into golf cart.

The owner of the golf cart the girl was driving did respond to the scene and did take possession of his golf cart.

He stated he would take responsibility for repairing the golf cart.

At 4:33 p.m. on May 1 the fire department responded to a rescue call for a 24-foot blue boat that was sinking, and the caller could not configure their location. A tow company came and took charge of the boat, and the fire department assisted.

On Sunday, May 2 at approximately 2:43 a.m. the fire department responded to another boat in distress. The call came in as a 23-foot ranger taking on water off the Boca Grande Causeway. Charlotte County Fire ended up taking that call.
