Florida Lighthouse Day will be celebrated at two island lights on Saturday, April 8 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Both lighthouses will be open to climb for a $5 donation, and there will be refreshments, children’s crafts and much more.
“We are asking people to go to our website at barrierislandparkssociety.org to sign up to climb Gasparilla island Lighthouse, as only 108 lucky people will be able to climb that day,” said Sharon McKenzie, executive director of BIPS. “It is the first time in history this lighthouse has ever been open for a public climb, so it will be a historic day. If there are remaining openings, we will sign more up the day of the climb at Gasparilla Island Lighthouse, but the signup sheet is already filling up.”
McKenzie said Port Boca Grande Lighthouse will have a signup as well, but there is more availability at that lighthouse. A signup sheet for that lighthouse will be available at the reception the day of the event.
