LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Eleanor and Frances’ great adventure
To the Editor:
You could call it, “The Miracle of the Lemonade Stand.” Two little girls wanted to help put the old Baptist Church back together again. You see, they knew that Hurricane Ian had left the church much like Humpty Dumpty after he fell off the wall, scattered all over the place.
Eleanor and Frances just had to do something about the situation. So, they put their heads together and hatched an idea. It was something that had been done with success across America for a very long time. Yes, they decided that a lemonade stand would work.
Their eyes dancing with excitement and more energy than we adults can muster, they set about building a good-looking structure, and decided they would sell their lemonade for $2 a glass. Their pricing reflected the current rate of inflation; but after all, it was great-tasting lemonade.
They made a very nice sign advertising their business and added a note that read:
“We are donating to the Baphtisom Church”
It’s not unusual for any of us to spell some words with a little different twist, but that just makes it more special.
Pastor Gary Beatty knows when something is very special; and when he was presented the envelope with $165 inside for the Church’s Hurricane Fund, his eyes teared up. It was definitely very special.
Thank you, Eleanor, and Frances. You’ve not only touched the heart of Pastor Beatty and the entire congregation, but you lifted our spirits, and we needed that more than you can know.
