BY SUSAN HANAFEE – In anticipation of next week’s meeting, scores of emails have been received by the Boca Grande Historic Preservation Board on the proposal to include a portion of the downtown in the National Register of Historic Places. To date, the vast majority have opposed the plan, with many suggesting that it might draw additional visitors, straining the already limited parking and bathroom facilities.
Others complained that it could infringe on individual property rights. Under state law, individuals are allowed to speak personally to members of the historic preservation board about the issue. The public can also send comments to contact@BGHPB.org. However, board members cannot talk among themselves about the proposal until the public meeting on the plan on March 10 at 10 a.m. in the Community Center auditorium.
Because of COVID restrictions, auditorium seating is limited. Additional seating will be set up for the public in the Woman’s Club meeting room.
