Fishing Guides hold Annual Meeting
On September 5, the Boca Grande Fishing Guides Association held their Annual Meeting, and discussed the future of the organization.
“Systems need to be put in place for the future to ensure that our fishing industry and heritage are preserved, and that’s just what we’re going to do,” said Capt. Christopher Taylor, the newly elected president. Other officers elected included Capt. Will Waterhouse as vice president and Capt. Kalee Joiner, secretary/treasurer.
A focus of the meeting was to discuss how the association could support both the local fishing guides, as well as the general community. There was discussion on the possibilities of forming a committee for these purposes.
The association is a prime display of solidarity and strength within the area’s fishing community that is so desperately needed in this day and age. With the increased development and unstoppable changes happening in the area, it is ever so more important that we show unity and support for our fishing community.
There is much work ahead for the association, including a new website. The group is also looking to replace the signage for the association, to be installed on the south end outside of Hudson’s Grocery. That will replace an original sign that was damaged by Hurricane Ian in 2022.
More meetings are to be held on near future dates.
Several members attended the meeting, and were witness to the long overdue and welcomed revival of the organization, which set its roots in March of 1988.
