The Boca Grande Historical Society is moving its artifacts and papers off island, until its offices can be restored.
During Hurricane Helene, a few inches of flood water came into their building, which is at the Boca Grande Community Center.
Today, President Johns Knight and others were there cleaning out and packing the contents and archives into Rubbermaid-type containers, to take to safe storage. Today, Monday, the air conditioning was working in the building, as was the internet and power, so they are able to safely remove papers and artifacts.
Below, Kim Kyle, the BGHS administrative director, gives a short report as they clean up. There are also a slew of volunteers who are sorting and packing. Below that are a few photos of the water.
