Weekend festivities highlighted by May Daze with music and fun to raise money for K-9s for Warriors
BY MARCY SHORTUSE – This weekend, May 22 and 23, you might notice a lot more activity down in the water along the Boca Grande Causeway. That’s because the Party Cove Yacht Club will be holding one of their events featuring fun, music, community, and getting together for a good cause.
Terry Hargis, the coordinator for the event, said this year they are raising money for the K-9s For Warrior’s Project, which matches up veterans with service dogs. K9s For Warriors focuses on ending veteran suicide and returning our warriors to a life of dignity and independence. The organization rescues and trains shelter dogs to be paired as service dogs for warriors with service-connected post-traumatic stress, traumatic brain injury and/or military trauma of all types. They are the nation’s largest provider of Service Dogs for disabled American veterans, and the organization is a tax-exempt 501(C)(3) nonprofit organization.
Last weekend a fundraiser was also held at Bert’s Black Widow Harley Davidson in El Jobean. Hargis said the event went quite well, but they are still hoping to “pass the hat” at the big party this weekend just off Dog Island.
The get-together will feature two days of live music on the water, and Hargis wants to stress it is a family-friendly event. Anyone who does not adhere to those rules will be asked to leave.
“We will be asking for donations out on the water for K-9’s for warriors,” Hargis said, “but the best way to donate is to go to the web page partycoveyachtclubfl.com and there’s a link on there where you can donate directly. By going through that it shows up as party cove handling the donations. You can also go to the Party Cove Yacht Club Facebook page and join.”
If you are a VIP for the event, pickup time is at 10 a.m. at Eldred’s Marina, located just before the tollbooth on the Boca Grande Causeway. Parking is limited, so the more people who ride together, the better.
