Artist Diane Mannion will have a show in Grove City in December. Mannion began painting at age five, when she received her very first watercolor box, and she has carried that inspiration for art into adulthood, having countless sketchbooks filled with new ideas for future pieces. Mannion, who studied at Pratt Institute and in her home state at the State University of New York, has written and illustrated various children’s books. She currently teaches art classes at the Ringling Art Center in Englewood.

“Color and light are music to me,” Mannion said. “I strive to share this joyful visual experience with others.”

Mannion has won various awards, including Fine Art Connoisseur Magazine Award of Excellence, twice winning the Bowles Portrait Award and the James Gurney Challenge. She was a finalist in both the Boldbrush Painting Competition and PleinAir Magazine Competition. Mannion enjoys the enthusiastic community of artists that she has found in Southwest Florida, and has had solo shows at Bay Preserve at Osprey, Ringling’s Mitchell Gallery, MPD Gallery and Hughes Gallery in Boca Grande.

MPD Fine Art Gallery will host Mannion for a catered evening with live music at the Southern Design Living’s Outdoor Orchid Garden from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 12. The evening will include new paintings and a retrospective of Catherine Kerr’s book on the late St. Louis architect Gale E. Henderson.
