Hope for Haitian committee says many thanks to you

To the Editor:

On behalf of the Hope for Haitian Committee of Boca Grande, we want to thank all our donors for their support in this year’s campaign. Our goal is to build 50 houses for those poverty-stricken Haitian families living in mud huts with dirt floors, no sanitation and little or no fresh water. Although we have not yet reached our goal, we are close and pray that we get there by the season’s end. Over the past ten years, BG donors have changed the lives of over 400 Haitian families by providing them homes with solid floors, toilets, doors that lock … but above all, together, we are giving them hope

We would also like to give a special thanks to our partners, Food for the Poor Inc. (FFP). They provide us planning, project financial costs and project oversight. All the donations we collect go to our specific project. We then travel to Haiti to witness firsthand what your generosity has achieved. For five years, FFP will provide each community we build with a social worker to follow up to assure that our projects are not only efficiently executed but continue to prosper as per our goals and expectations. FFP is one of the largest international nonprofit organizations in the U.S. and serves 17 countries in Central America and the Caribbean. They feed over one million people a day and each year build over 4,000 houses on donated land using local people and resources. They ship over 4,500 tractor-trailer loads of aid that includes food, clothing, medical and school supplies and other needed items. They build dormitories, clinics, schools, fishing villages, help pay for teachers’ salaries, support micro-enterprise projects, including agriculture, all in an effort to help the poorest of the poor in these 17 countries. Their support is specifically designed to provide a hand so people can care for themselves. FFP accomplishes this with a staff of over 300 in their U.S. corporate office. Their associated offices in Haiti, Jamaica and Guyana employ around 500 native people and give work to many local small entrepreneurs. In the other 13 countries, FFP works with well- vetted and carefully selected partners who share similar goals and values. FFP does this wonderful work effectively and efficiently, which requires a great deal of management and organizational skills. We are proud to be their partners and thankful for the extraordinary support they provide our Committee.
