J.McLaughlin to feature Clyde Butcher for Everglades group

J.McLaughlin dedicates a day and collection to the Everglades every year. Each store is asked to do something special for the state-wide event and this year the Boca Grande store will feature acclaimed landscape photographer Clyde Butcher.
“I’ve been a huge fan of Clyde Butcher for years,” said Caroline Farrington, manager of Boca Grande’s J.McLaughlin. “I went to see his gallery in the Everglades, and I just thought, what are the chances of getting the two together?”
This April 7 is Everglades Day, and Farrington has been working with Butcher’s gallery in Venice to get prints to display for the weekend leading up to, and on the day.
Butcher’s photographs as well as his Everglades book will be at the store Saturday, April 5 through Monday, April 7, and 10 percent of proceeds on Monday will go to the Everglades Foundation.
All the Florida stores will be raising money for the Everglades Foundation in the state-wide event. A capsule collection is created every year featuring flora and fauna from the Everglades.
Clyde Butcher is a renowned American artist, recognized both nationally and internationally as one of the finest landscape photographers of his generation. For over 50 years Butcher has dedicated his life to capturing and preserving the untouched beauty of the natural world. Best known for his iconic photographs of the Everglades, Butcher’s work also spans diverse natural landscapes across the United States, Cuba and Europe.
“Our partnership this particular year seems a perfect match to me. Clyde Butcher is both an environmentalist and a photographer who captures the beauty of the place,” Farrington said.
The Everglades Foundation’s mission is to protect and restore this vital ecosystem through science, advocacy and education. J.McLaughlin has set aside 10 percent of proceeds from the Everglades-themed clothing collections to support the Foundation’s Everglades Literacy Program, which has now impacted 7,000 teachers and 250,000 students.

J.McLaughlin is located at 360 Park Ave. and is open 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday-Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
