While many on the Island have spent the last 15 months recovering from Hurricane Ian, the Historical Society and Island TV have worked on documenting this current history. It will premiere next week, though the event is full.

The project started while the storm was still at its height with Rick Montgomery of Island TV taking aerial and ground level video that dramatically captures the sights and sounds of the storm. He followed up with footage of the immediate aftermath of the damages as well as the quick commitment of the fire department, sheriff’s office, workers and Islanders to the safety of residents, the rehabilitation of homes and businesses and access to all areas of the community.

The Historical Society worked on interviews with many of the people who led the various rebuilding projects. It also secured support for the project including requesting that sponsors and ticket holders for its planned fund raiser, “Herstory,” become Ian Project underwriters.

The result is a one-hour documentary that will be shown on Weds., Jan. 31.

The documentary will remain as a record of the impact of the hurricane.
