To the Editor:
On Wednesday, Dec. 20 the Boca Grande Historical Society and the Johann Fust Library again teamed up to present the third “Florida History Alive” program for students at The Island School.
Betsy Joiner, Nancy Lyons and Karen Grace from the Historical Society teamed with librarians Gladys Varga and Mary Vickers and special guest Johns Knight to tell how pioneer families came to Florida and started the commercial and sport fishing, the cattle ranches and the citrus groves that became so important to the economy of Florida.
As always, the students responded enthusiastically.
The Historical Society and the Library thank the teachers and staff at The Island School for their welcome and support. “Florida History Alive” will continue next school year.
