PRESIDENT

Yes, we are 60 years old. In 1966, Dearborn Street had a 5 & 10, barber shop, drugstore and bakery. The same year, the local Fire Department acquired a boat for bay rescues. The corner of 776 and Placida Road was called Whiskey Corners. The wooden bridge to Manasota Key was replaced in 1964. Englewood was the second-largest town in Sarasota County.

We began our humble beginnings in 1966 with a handful of orchid enthusiasts. We are a small society driven by passion, purpose and the desire to make a difference. The Englewood Area Orchid Society is an affiliate of the American Orchid Society. Our monthly meetings feature engaging presentations, hands-on workshops, exciting trips, our annual show, summer picnic and holiday celebration. Many of our members are brand new to orchids, while some have been members for over 25 years. Florida is home to at least 106 native orchids.  Orchid plants can live up to 100 years.

We plan to celebrate our 60th anniversary with our Annual Fall Plant Sale in October. We are also planning our annual show in March of 2027.

Our meetings are held the third Monday of each month at 6 pm, at St. David’s Episcopal Church, 401 Broadway, Englewood.

Please be our guest and become part of this fun and exciting group.
