Watching for PTC 9, perhaps soon to be Helene

The storm PTC 9, expected to be named Helene, will pass through the Gulf of Mexico Wednesday and Thursday.
The storm is a large area, and even if not in the cone, expect high winds and higher water. On September 24, 2024, Governor Ron DeSantis issued Executive Order 24-209, amending Executive Order 24-208, declaring a state of emergency for both Charlotte and Lee counties. That means a number of things, including that one can get early prescriptions.

- Sandbags and sand: According to the Boca Grande Fire Department, sandbags are available at the Fire Station and the sand pile is adjacent to the driveway off of Wheeler Road.
- Auxcomm: Bo Hamrick, of the island Auxiliary Communications Committee, reminds that this is the time to get out your handheld radios, to ensure that they are fully charged and tested to the Boca Grande and Englewood repeaters.

- NOAA has a map with their latest tracks. It also has expected times and cones. A reminder that the “cone” is not the area where the storm will be, only the possible track area for where the eye might go.
