The Coral Creek Club once again partnered with the Folds of Honor to help raise funds for scholarships to spouses and children of fallen or disabled veterans. This year they raised just over $15,000, which will fund three full local scholarships.

The club offered a closest to the pin challenge throughout the Memorial Day weekend as well as accepting any voluntary donations through members and guests throughout the weekend.

FOH has a direct partnership with the PGA of America and was founded through a PGA member and veteran Dan Rooney in 2007.

Since then, the PGA has run a campaign through its association of 30,000 PGA members to support FOH via Patriot Golf Day tournaments and special events.

New this year the FOH via the PGA have also joined forces with PGA Hope (Helping our Patriots Everywhere) to share in the funds raised. PGA Hope introduces golf to veterans and active-duty military to enhance their physical, mental, social and emotional well-being.

Jim Lohbauer, head golf professional for Coral Creek and PGA master professional, became certified with PGA Hope last year in Tampa. He has been involved with FOH for well over 10 years, and previously served on the Board of Directors for the FOH Western Carolina Chapter.

“The concept of Patriot Golf Day is challenging as it falls at the very end of our golf season so much of our campaigning is while members are away,” Lohbauer said. “That being said our club has a large number of supporters and has steadily grown our participation and support to FOH over the past four years.”

Last year the club raised over $9,300 which helped fund two FOH scholarships locally.

“My long-term goal is to host a significant fundraising event at CCC to benefit the Folds of Honor Foundation,” Lohbauer said. “Through our members, we have already made the connection with Dan Rooney and others to put something together at a future date.  For the time being we will continue to partner on a smaller level and raise funds.”
