On Monday, June 3, Lee County submitted all requested documentation to FEMA demonstrating compliance with the National Flood Insurance Program after Hurricane Ian, including the Lee County’s Floodplain Management Post-Hurricane Ian Compliance Response.

Lee County staff provided an update at the Board of County Commissioners regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday that documentation on all 414 properties identified by FEMA had been submitted. It’s anticipated that review could take about a month.

Lee County property owners have been receiving a 25 percent discount on flood insurance. The discount could disappear in October, a result of rebuilding practices in Lee County

Earlier FEMA letters explaining why the discount was ending indicated it was “due to the large amount of unpermitted work, lack of documentation and failure to properly monitor activity in special flood hazard areas.”

Lee County’s Floodplain Management Post-Hurricane Ian Compliance Response, as well as an Executive Summary can be found at leegov.com/femacrs.

Both documents, which were provided to FEMA, describe Lee County’s compliance activities, including why Lee County made the decisions it did after Hurricane Ian, the timing of those decisions and how the County adhered to FEMA’s National Flood Insurance Program and CRS guidelines.
