At their Annual Meeting held on Monday April 4, The Boca Grande Woman’s Club announced that the grand total of their 2016 community grants and scholarships is $649,600.
The membership approved community grants totaling $260,600 for 20 local nonprofit organizations, which included assistance in funding the restoration of the 1927 Range Light, support for professional development for The Island School staff and support for children’s programs at the Boca Grande Community Center, The Art Center, Royal Palm Players and the Boca Grande Health Clinic.
Scholarships in the amount of $264,000 were awarded in the 2015-2016 club year to 60 local students who reside on Boca Grande or who have parents that work on the Island. Combined with the $125,000 contribution to the GICIA toward the Mercabo purchase earlier this year, the total of the community-wide contributions from the Woman’s Club in 2016 was $649,600.
Funding for these gifts was made possible by the success of the annual Woman’s Club Gala and record sales at Boca Bargains. The Woman’s Club is grateful to the many people whose support made these grants and scholarships possible.
