Voting elects move to Methodist Church

In-person voting at Precinct 122, which typically is held at the Boca Grande Community Center will instead use the Lighthouse United Methodist Church for the Nov. 5 General Election.

The Community Center, which sustained significant damage from Hurricane Helene and the Hurricane Milton, is unusable, so the Lee County Supervisor of Elections has made a temporary change in polling locations.

The Supervisor of Elections office will send temporary polling place change notices to affected voters and information will be updated on the website and social media, wrote Gaby Aguirre, Lee County Elections Office communications specialist, reached by email on Wednesday, Oct. 16.

Mail ballots were sent to voters who requested one on Tuesday, October 1, and can be tracked as always at lee.vote. On Tuesday, Oct. 15, the Supervisor of Elections released the following Vote-by-Mail post-hurricane updates:

• Individuals impacted by Hurricanes Helene and Milton can visit the USPS Residential Service Disruptions Alerts page to determine if there is an alternate USPS mail facility servicing their area, according to the Elections website.

• In the aftermath of the storms, mail carriers will attempt to deliver your mail; if unable to deliver it, your mail is held for 10 days at the designated USPS mail facility, where you can pick it up in person. After 10 days, your mail will be returned to the sender.

• Lee County voters affected by these storms do not need to update their residential address if temporarily displaced. If you are receiving your mail at a different address besides your residential address, contact us at (239) 533-8683.

• If you requested a vote-by-mail ballot and are in an area of Lee County that is not receiving mail or have an alternate address due to displacement, please call our office to request a replacement ballot at (239) 533-8683. Only one returned ballot per voter will be accepted.

Charlotte County residents can also request another ballot if theirs is lost or damaged at soecharlottecountyfl.gov and can track Vote-By-Mail ballots at charlottevotes.ballottrax.net/voter/.
