FIVE YEARS AGO

High tea was served at The Island School by volunteers Donna Lutton, Margo Freeman and Susan Bowers, with some help from kindergarten teacher/party planner Megan O’Conner.

TEN YEARS AGO

An internet feud was taking place between the live-baiters and the jiggers, as a gutted tarpon was found in Boca Grande Pass and eventually linked to the PTTS.

We got that electronic speed reader at 35th Street that was up for a while. 

TWENTY YEARS AGO

Mike Peoples and other models showed off the latest fashions from Boca Bargains at the “Give Thanks” celebration held at the Community Center.

TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO

A Lee County meeting was scheduled to discuss right-of-ways, and why people should not plant plants on them. 

THIRTY YEARS AGO

A macaw named Zeus was on the loose, making it all the way from Venice to Boca Grande before his freedom flight ended.

THIRTY-FIVE YEARS AGO

Grand plans were in store for state recreation areas on Cayo Costa, Gasparilla Island and Don Pedro. It was the beginning of what it now known as our four state parks covered by the Barrier Island Parks Society.

The future water needs of the island were guaranteed as the water association received word that its loan for a 500,000 gallon a day recerse osmosis purification plant was approved.
