A tropical low weather system moved over us this week bringing some much needed rain in abundance, but it has also put a damper on our tarpon fishing for a few days.

When we get these low pressure systems of cloudy days along with heavy thunderstorms and lightning, tarpon take flight from the Pass and head out into the gulf until some sunny days return.

They’ll be back soon enough. We still have a couple of months of tarpon fishing remaining, we’ll just have to start factoring in these weather systems a little more often.

The backcountry fishing has been really good. The snook, redfish and trout love the cooler water temperatures the rain and clouds bring. Just be careful to avoid lightning situations out there.

One thing that’s good to see this time of year is there’s a lot of families around now that school is out enjoying our tarpon fishing.

Last week the Wash family slipped away from Tampa for a trip to the Pass and caught them pretty good, including a bonus little goliath grouper. It’s always fun to see families have a memorable time on the water.

Enjoy our great fishing!
