Registration is on for Bike Path Parade
The Boca Grande Woman’s Club invites residents to celebrate on Saturday, March 9 by joining them at the annual Bike Path Parade and Spring Fair.
To represent their love for their island’s past, the club has chosen as a theme the historic railroad line and train that carried both phosphate and passengers to the island for decades.
Was your family one that discovered Boca Grande this way? Perhaps it is something different that you hold dear about the island. Do you have memories of innumerable holidays spent at The Gasparilla Inn? Has tarpon fishing been a long-time competitive sport in your family? Do you find the island’s pirate history fascinating? Get into the spirit and show your friends and neighbors why you love the island by dressing up and participating in the Bike Path Parade.
The Parade for carts, scooters and bikes departs from 5th Street at 10:30 a.m. and continues along the Bike Path. Put together a costume and decorate your vehicle to complete an applause-worthy image of what Boca Grande means to you.
The Parade ends at the Community Center at 11 a.m., where the Fair will delight with loads of entertainment for kids of all ages. You won’t want to miss this year’s trackless train, making stops at some favorite Fair attractions.
There’s a pirate bounce house for all of you mateys out there, a jungle bounce house for the younger ones, and inflatable sports games for everyone. Many other favorites return this year, including the Cake Walk (throw a $1 bill or two in your pocket to participate), the popcorn machine, pony rides, two face painters, the hugely popular bake sale, and grilled lunch at the concession stand.
Be sure to save Saturday, March 9, for a special, celebratory Spring Fair.
Paper applications will also be available at the Boca Grande Community Center in the Lee County Parks & Recreation office, Room 9.
The parade will begin promptly at 10:30 a.m. at 5th Street.
Parade participants will be requested to line up early to enable the judges time for preliminary viewing.
Online registration is open on the club’s website at bwgc.org/parade and will be available through Wednesday, March 6.
