Obituary: William Carlstrom

William Joseph (Bad Bill or Wild Willy) Carlstrom, age 79, of Port Charlotte and Boca Grande, passed away December 29, 2018. Bill was born in Queens, N.Y. on August 8, 1939, the son of Norman and Kathleen Carlstrom. After graduating  from high school he enlisted in the Marine Corps from 1956 to 1959, returning to New York to start a career in store merchandising and design. He went on to own his own businesses, with plants in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Florida. He is a United States Patent holder on numerous inventions and designs, most recognizable the Lexan Connectors that are still used today throughout department stores for the Glass Cube Systems. His parent company Lyle/Carlstrom Associates was awarded Americas Top Fixture Manufacturer by both Visual Merchandising & Store Design, and Display & Design Ideas Publications.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife Lorraine of 54 years, their daughter Kimberly Carlstrom, their sons Gregory Carlstrom and Jason Carlstrom, grandchildren Austin Missbach, Sabrina Missbach, Niamh Carlstrom, Allyson Carlstrom, Mathew Carlstrom, Thomas Carlstrom, and  great grandson Mason Missbach. Eight brothers and sisters, dozens of nieces and nephews, and many more extended family members.
They raised their family in Mendham, New Jersey. Their love of beaches, boating, and golf brought them to Florida. Bill loved to entertain and throw some memorable parties. He was very passionate about his family and friends, politics, and having a good time.
A celebration of life will be held at ten March 19, 2019 at Our Lady of Mercy in Boca Grande, Florida. In lieu of Flowers, donations can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
