‘Mullet and Mangroves’ to be presented today at the Community Center

Friends of Cayo Costa, along with Barrier Island Parks Society and Boca Grande Historical Society, are proud to present the locally-filmed documentary “Mullet and Mangroves: The Pioneer Fishing Families of Cayo Costa.” The film documentary begins at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, April 12 at the Boca Grande auditorium. Seating is limited, and reservations are encouraged.
A wine and hors d’oeuvres reception will follow in the Woman’s Club Room.
You’re likely to recognize some of the cast, including Hudson Coleman, the youngest of Capt. Charlie and Nicole Coleman’s three boys and the actual great-great-grandson of Nona Coleman. He portrays Stanley Darna as a child who lived on Cayo Costa and went to school in Boca Grande.
Stanley Darna shares about the old Boca Grande School and how his dad was instrumental in raising the historic Mid-Island lighthouse back in the 1920s. The Mid-Island lighthouse, also known as the Boca Grande Rear Range and Gasparilla Island lighthouse, was recently restored by the Barrier Island Parks Society.
