Letters: Boca Grande group heads to Sarasota Opera for Carmen; invite open for the future
To the Editor:
Recently, my wife and I joined a group of Bocagranders to attend a performance of the opera “Carmen” at the Sarasota Opera. The trip was skillfully hosted by Boca Grande’s very own Debbie Frank. As a special bonus, the world-renowned opera conductor, Peter Leonard, accompanied us, graciously offering to answer any questions.
In an era marked by open borders, escalating crime rates, soaring inflation, extreme political machinations and the ominous specter of world wars, the complex tapestry of our daily lives was momentarily displaced by heavenly music, even before the curtain went up. Commencing with the prelude, we were immersed in three hours of both auditory and visual splendor – a production of considerable expense.
This was undeniably an enlightening event that will undoubtedly linger in our memories for years to come. Interestingly, I first experienced this opera at the age of 12 and have revisited it countless times since.
However, the evening didn’t conclude with the final notes of the performance. Post-curtain, we were treated to an exquisite Italian cuisine dinner, complemented by fine wines.
So, for those seeking an uplifting rest from the mundane, consider attending “Carmen” at the Sarasota Opera. It might just be the best medicine, offering a spiritual escape into another world.
Performances are scheduled several times a week until late spring. And if you’re interested, plan to join us next year; you can contact Debbie for details.
