STAFF REPORT – This past weekend Boca Grande firefighters came to the rescue of a woman in a kayak who was in distress in local waters.

On Sunday, March 21 at approximately 8:30 p.m. the Boca Grande Fire Department received a water rescue call from Charlotte County Fire and EMS, regarding a female kayaker who had been missing for two to three hours in the vicinity of Boca Grande. Surrounding waters that day were quite rough, and it was windy and chilly.

After deploying the fire/rescue boat, Boca Grande Firefighters found the distressed kayaker in the channel by Three Sisters Island. Apparently, the people she was with were camping by the trestle, and they called her in as missing when it got dark and the water got rougher.

The kayak was taking on water when firefighters found her, and she was cold and tired but uninjured.
