STAFF REPORT – News from the Boca Grande History Center is that it has added the first part of a new mini-exhibit that will cover the Boca Grande Hotel and Joseph Spadero, the hotel’s creator.
The new items include china from the Boca Grande Hotel, which is on loan from Trisha Lowe. In addition, the Historical Society has added many videos to its website including its “Let’s Talk About Florida” book discussion series, lectures by David Futch on stories of his family and others, oral histories by Karlie Stokes about Boca Grande’s black communities, and by Carl Abbott on the Sarasota School of Architecture. All are free.
“Island Icons: Places and People,” the Historical Society’s virtual historic house tour, is also available at $10 per segment, or $50 for the complete seven-segment program.
Finally, available on the website are games, puzzles and tests to challenge your island knowledge.
