BY JACK SHORT – A routine inspection revealed that the small bridge on Harbor Drive suffered from a bowing seawall that will be repaired next week.
Representatives of Lee County said the repairs should last one to two weeks. Randy Cerchie, acting director of the Department of Transportation for Lee County, said he suspects a tieback has become corroded and may have failed, causing the southeast seawall to bow outward.
Lee DOT does not anticipate any complications and traffic will be reduced to one lane during part of the construction, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
No new materials needed to be procured, he added, because they had extra tiebacks from a previous project. As a result, he guessed that the cost would likely be less than $30,000.
