Gasparilla Magazine takes home two top honors from Charlie Awards

Gasparilla Magazine was a hit at the recent Charlie Awards, sponsored by the Florida Magazine Association.
The staff took home a first-place award (or Charlie, as it is known) for the smartphone application, and claimed an award for their photography as well.
The awards ceremony was held on Friday night, Sept. 23, at the Swan Resort of Walt Disney World in Orlando.
Their Charlie Award came in the Digital Excellence category, Best App. The app can be found on all Androids and iPhones under “Boca Grande.”
Publisher Dusty Hopkins also took home a Silver Award in the ”Best Single Department Photograph – All Consumer” category for his photograph of Whidden’s Marina.
“We are very happy the judges appreciated our work,” Hopkins said. “While winning awards wasn’t the main reason we created Gasparilla Magazine in 2013, it’s very nice to be recognized. We hope to shine even brighter next year at the Charlie Awards.”
